Sonia Delaunay is a multi-disciplinary abstract artist and key figure in the Parisian avant-garde. She integrated her work in many different mediums like furniture, fabrics, wall coverings and clothing. Known for her strong colors and geometric shapes, she co-founded alongside her husband Robert Delaunay, the movement Simultanism describing the abstract painting developed by her husband Robert Delaunay and herself from about 1910.
Sonia Delaunay was the first living female artist to have a retrospective at the Louvre in 1964. She has also had her work shown at the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris, the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, the Musée National d’Art Moderne and more recently at the Tate Modern.
