  • Daniel de Montmollin (1921- )

Daniel de Montmollin, also known as "Brother Daniel," is a Swiss ceramist.
He graduated in 1946 with a degree in theology from the Faculty of Lausanne. He was one of the founders of the Taizé Community in 1942.
Daniel de Montmollin is known for his mastery of stoneware throwing and, above all, for his scientifically rigorous research into glazing. His meeting in 1952 with the Swiss ceramist Philippe Lambercy (1919-2006) enabled him to study the chemistry of enamels in greater depth. Brother Daniel specializes in enamels based on plant ashes (hay, corn) and sometimes on local rocks collected around Taizé.
Daniel de Montmollin's ceramics are usually discreetly signed with the stamp "D. Taizé."
