  • Dorazio Piero (1927-2005)

Painter, curator, speaker, and specialist of the Italian Renaissance, Dorazio began painting around 1942. His first works were landscapes and still lifes.

His compositions gradually lean towards cubism. Around 1947,  linear structures appear. In 1947 he contributes to the manifesto Forma I which defended the idea of painting forms which are disconnected from reality. In the fifties combinations of coloured squares and intersecting coloured lines appear in his works.

In Paris, he studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1947 where he met Magnelli, Braque, Léger and Vantongerloo. In 1951, he befriended Balla. As of 1961 he taught in the United States and socialized with Hans Richter, Cy Twombly and Robert Mortherwell.
