- Carlos Cruz-Diez (1923-2019)
Carlos Cruz-Diez (1923 - 2019), acclaimed optical and kinetic artist, is known in particular for his research and theories on colour, which he considers to be a reality on its own. In Cruz-Diez's works, colour -freed from form as the artist wants it to be- alters according to its interaction with the viewer, light and space.
In 1961 Cruz-Diez participated in the Bewogen Beweging exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam (together with a.o. Calder, Moholy-Nagy, Tinguely and Vasarely). In 1965, he was represented in The Responsive Eye exhibition at the MOMA. Two key events in the history of optical and kinetic art.
His Physichromies of infinite chromatic richness offer each viewer his own reading, the slightest ray of light composing a new painting.
